About the Division

The Division of Molecular Radiation Biology is primarily focused on research. The mission of this multidisciplinary research program is to understand the molecular mechanisms behind critical cellular responses to ionizing radiation (including DNA repair, cellular proliferation, and inflammation), as well as to develop biological markers that predict how an individual may respond.

By understanding how resistance to radiation and chemotherapy develops, and determining how individuals respond to particular therapies, we can develop more efficient and personalized treatments for cancer patients.

Research in the Division of Molecular Radiation Biology encompasses several areas of investigation, including:

  • Radiation resistance and radiation sensitization
  • DNA double-strand break repair
  • Prognostic markers for therapeutic outcomes
  • Biology of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
  • Space radiation biology
