Sherwood Brown, MD, PhD
Associate Professor
Dr. Brown’s research primarily focuses on the treatment of dual diagnosis patients with two ongoing NIH-funded studies currently recruiting in this area. He has completed and published 21 clinical trials over the past 14 years, mentored trainees, and has peer-reviewed publications with trainees ranging from high school students to junior faculty. He has also assisted trainees in receiving initial research support including a diversity supplement from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
Alyson Nakamura, MD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Nakamura has been a co-investigator with Dr. Sherwood Brown, MD, PhD, for the past five years on 18 different studies, the majority of which involved dual diagnosis patients who had both serious mood and substance dependence disorders. In addition to her collaboration with Dr. Brown, she also works in UT Southwestern’s faculty clinic and is the medical director of the Psychotherapy Clinic, where we train our psychiatry residents and doctoral psychology interns. Her clinical work primarily involves treating mood, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders.
Prabha Sunderajan, MD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Sunderajan has worked as a co-investigator with Sherwood Brown, MD, PhD, on six studies over the last two years. Additionally, she has been the P.I. on several of her own studies during the last ten years at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Her past and current duties include extensive experience working with populations experiencing mood and substance use disorders including alcohol dependence.
