Episcopal School of Dallas Rotation

Fellows meet once a week for half a day at the Episcopal School of Dallas, a private, college-preparatory school with approximately 1,200 students from PreK–12, to observe school-based mental health care for Dallas children and their families.

As part of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellow experience at the school, you will be working with three clinical psychologists from Children’s Medical Center and one intern from UT Southwestern. The psychologists serve as consultants to the school, working with parents, teachers, and administrators to help identify students in need of services for learning, emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties. Fellows will attend meetings with the psychologists and school personnel in which concerns about students are discussed and appropriate recommendations are made.

Fellows will also have the opportunity to conduct classroom observation with elementary-age children and preschool children. Classroom observation is an excellent approach for gathering information to assist with diagnosis, educating parents, and advising school officials. This setting will further the fellow’s knowledge of normal development.
