Current and former members of the faculty have achieved considerable prominence nationally.

  • Gilbert Forbes received the John Howland Medal, the highest honor in Academic Pediatrics, in 1992.
  • Perrin White received the E. Mead Johnson Pediatric Research Award in 1996.
  • George McCracken received the Maxwell Finland Award in 2004.
  • George Lister received the Maureen Andrew Mentor Award of the Society for Pediatric Research and was elected Chairman of the Board of the American Board of Pediatrics in 2004, was elected to the Institute of Medicine National Academy of Sciences in 2006, and was elected President of the American Pediatric Society in 2008.
  • George Buchanan received the Distinguished Career Award from the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in 2007.
  • Fangming Lin was the first recipient of the Norman Siegel Pediatric Research Grant Award from the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology in 2007.
  • Robert Wiebe was co-recipient of the Emergency Medical Services for Children National Heroes Award in 2007.
  • Three members of the Department have been elected President of the Society for Pediatric Research: Joseph Warshaw in 1982, George Lister in 1993, and Philip Shaul in 2006.
  • Seven pediatric faculty have received UT Southwestern’s President’s Research Council Distinguished Young Researcher Award: Michael Fant in 1986, Robert Bash in 1996, Steven Kernie in 2000, Michelle Gill and Matthew Porteus in 2004, Ralph DeBerardinis in 2008, and Kamal Bharucha in 2009.
  • Andrew Koh and Jeffrey McKinney were Rhodes Scholars.
  • 14 are listed in Best Doctors in America.
  • 41 were listed by D Magazine as Best Pediatric Specialists in Dallas in 2011.
  • 21 were listed as Texas Super Doctors in Texas Monthly.
