Dr. Zaki and laboratory publish paper in Cell Reports

Congratulations to Dr. Hasan Zaki and his laboratory on their paper "The DNA Sensor AIM2 Maintains Intestinal Homeostasis via Regulation of Epithelial Antimicrobial Host Defense” which was recently published in the journal Cell Reports.  The study demonstrates that a pathogen-sensing molecule called AIM2 plays a vital role in keeping the gastrointestinal system healthy by regulating immune responses and growth of harmful bacteria like E. coli. The findings of this study implicate AIM2 as a future therapeutic target for intestinal inflammatory disorders such as inflammatory bowel diseases and colorectal cancer.  A more detailed description of this study may be seen here.
