Neurology resident Justin Jordan, MD, is the winner of the first annual American Academy of Neurology Patient Safety Award. Jordan received the award at the AAN Annual Meeting in New Orleans for his research poster titled "Evaluating the Safety and Success of Inpatient Lumbar Punctures in a Changing Academic Environment."

Neurology resident Justin Jordan, MD, has been elected to the board of the American Academy of Neurology Consortium of Neurology Residents and Fellows. He will serve a three-year term as chair-elect, then chair, then immediate-past chair to the consortium. His role will be to plan annual meetings, lectures for residents and fellows, and online activities for residents and fellows. He is also working on an online education module for neurology residents as a joint project with the current chair.

Congratulations to Maria Grosch, Clinical Psychology Graduate Student, who is the 2012 recipient of the Ida M. Green Award. Grosch has conducted her research under mentor C. Munro Cullum,PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology and Neurotherapeutics. The award is given to a female graduate student who demonstrates scholastic excellence in her field of research.

Congratulations to Dr. Steven Vernino who has been appointed the next holder of the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation Distinguished Chair in Neuromuscular Disease. Dr. Vernino is professor of neurology and neurotherapeutics and director of the neurology residency program.

Congratulations to Priyanka Chaudhry, MD, Emily Herndon, MD, Steven Vernino, MD, PhD and Srikanth Muppidi MD for their publication in Archives of Neurology: "Progressive Weakness with Respiratory Failure in a Patient with Sarcoidosis." This is the second Clinical Pathological Conference from UT Southwestern's Neurology Residency Program published recently in Archives.

Gregory S. Carter, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Neurology, was elected on March 31, 2012 to be the 18th President of the Southern Sleep Society--the oldest regional sleep society in the United States. Dr. Carter has arranged for the 35th annual meeting in March of 2013 to be held in Dallas. The meeting will showcase several UT Southwestern faculty.
