Howsen Kwan, M.D.
Hometown/Medical School: Gainesville, TX; Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
About Me: North Texas has been my home for most of my life. However, I took a world tour of medical school in Ireland, then trained a few years in Orthopaedic Surgery before coming back. In my off time, I enjoy playing the piano and tennis. When time permits, I am off gallivanting the world. Since residency started, I have trekked the Inca Trail in Peru, scuba dived the most beautiful waters of Belize, crazy weekend trip to London, and partied in Hong Kong for New Year’s.
Why UTSW Family Medicine? UTSW was an obvious choice for me in terms that it has been part of my career development starting when I was a summer intern at Parkland Memorial Hospital as a college freshman. With the complexity of medicine, UTSW offers a unique patient population that challenges me daily.
Post-Residency Plan: Currently, I am looking into going to China after residency. Asia is evolving at an exciting pace and it would be fun to be part of it!
Mohita Patel, M.D.
Hometown/Medical School: Austin, TX; Ross University School of Medicine
About Me: I was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and moved to Austin when I was around 4 years old. Since then, I stayed in Texas and went to college at UT Austin (Hook Em!). I have moved around a lot over the past few years (Miami, NY) due to going to Ross, which was fun, but I realized fast that I am definitely a Texas girl. I like to spend time with my family and friends, being on Pinterest, drawing, arts/crafts, reading, outdoor activities, and cooking/baking.
Why UTSW Family Medicine? I chose UT Southwestern for Family Medicine because of multiple reasons. The residents got along well and were very happy, so I knew the learning environment was great. There are many electives offered, which allows you to tailor your education, plus I liked the community medicine aspect of our program that allows you to see and experience the resources around the Dallas community that are available for our patients
Post-Residency Plan: I hope to do outpatient medicine, focusing more on women’s health and pediatrics.
