At this clerkship site, students will work under the direct supervision of two board-certified family physicians in a private practice model office. The experience will be ambulatory care only, no inpatients.
Students will see the wide variety of patients in family medicine: newborns, children, adults, and geriatrics. They will also experience the excellent continuity of care that comes with having a large practice with established patients.
Urgent care patients are seen on a walk-in basis every day, and every Wednesday is a procedure day, when minor surgical procedures are performed in the office. Students will be exposed to a number of procedures including shave biopsies and excisional biopsies of skin lesions, incision and drainage of abscesses, suturing lacerations, and wedge resections of ingrown toenails.
Northeast center also performs simple x-rays in the office and has a basic office laboratory. Patients and office staff truly enjoy having students!
