M.D./M.P.H. Application and Admissions
Students seeking admission to the M.D./M.P.H. program must meet the application requirements of both UT Southwestern Medical School and the UT School of Public Health, apply, and be admitted to both degree programs before being considered for acceptance into the dual degree program by the M.D./M.P.H. Coordinating Committee.
Admission to one program does not ensure admission to the other.
Students are responsible for tuition and fee payments for courses taken in both schools, and upon successful completion of the degree requirements will receive a diploma from each university. Current M.D. or M.P.H. students may decide to add the dual degree option to their educational plan and receive credit for shared courses as long as they are in the first year of their initial program.
If admission to both degree programs is granted prior to the start of medical school, UTSPH coursework can begin the summer prior to the first semester of medical school.
An option exists for a fifth year for students entering the M.P.H. program during MS1. Upon completion of the five core courses, a student may receive a Certificate in Public Health. However, students opting for a certificate must withdraw from the M.P.H. program.
