Students and postdocs at UT Southwestern are assigned a SouthwesternID and password for the several purposes including
- accessing computers and printers
- checking email
- accessing curriculum materials
- browsing library resources
When logging in for the first time, users will be prompted to change passwords immediately. Subsequent requests to change passwords will have nine "grace" logins before lock out. Novell passwords must be changed at least once a year.

Configuring Self-Service Password Reset
It is recommended to configure self-service password reset as soon as possible. The following steps explain how.
- Login to the iAIM web site.
- Select "Security Questions" on the left navigation bar under "Maintain My SouthwesternID."
- Select two security questions.
- Select "OK."
- Input the answers to the selected questions.
- Select "Save."
- Select "Logoff" in right hand top corner.
After the configuration is completed, self-service passwords may be performed. To perform the reset proceed to the IR Home Page and select the "Reset Passwords" link on the left hand column.
Manually Changing Passwords
Passwords may be changed through GroupWise at any time other than the initial login. To change passwords, follow the steps below:
- Log in to a student workstation using a SouthwesternID and current password.
- Double-click the "GroupWise" icon on the desktop.
- Log in to GroupWise using a SouthwesternID and current password. GroupWise will open to the e-mail view.
- Select "Options" from the Tools menu to proceed in changing the password.
