The mission of Gas Cylinder Control is to efficiently purchase, distribute and manage the compressed and liquid gases used by the departments for education, research and patient care. Gas Cylinder Control is a division of Materials Management. All activities are performed in accordance with state law, Regents Rules, UT System and UT Southwestern policies.

ORDERING GAS CYLINDERS

The mission of Gas Cylinder Control is to distribute gases to requesting departments, and to track leased rented cylinders from vendors. Gas Cylinder Control handles almost 70 stock gases available on a next-business-day basis, as well as special mixes and special gas products such as regulators and safety equipment.

To order from Gas Cylinder Control, use the Online (GCO) FORMS System, or complete an IDR as described above and forward to GCC at mail stop #8893.

To return empty cylinders call (214) 648-6139 to arrange for pick up.

Safety

Important - do not store or place gas cylinders in hallways or corridors. Gas cylinders, either full or empty, may be under high pressure and are considered a hazardous material. Cylinders must be secured with chains or straps at all times.

ACCESSING GAS CYLINDERS VIA THE ONLINE FORMS SYSTEM

Departments having access to OAS can access Gas Cylinder Control to place paperless orders online at that time. There are many advantages to ordering merchandise in this manner:

2. Allocate your own funds - split order costs among multiple accounts.
3. Track your own order throughout the process.
4. Speeds up your order, no delay due to campus mail.

To enter an online order, enter FORM at the "Good Morning" menu of the OAS System. Enter GCO from the FORM menu. At this point you can use the NEW command and enter the fields necessary to create a new Gas Cylinder Control order. Documentation and help is available from these screens. The Online Forms class is high recommended to help you take full advantage of the capabilities of the system.
