Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies and be able to:
- Describe common and practical options for weight loss: medical and surgical perspectives
- Discuss advances in the management of obesity in all ages
- Present options in bariatric surgery and address who is a candidate for surgery
- Describe the management of refractory obesity
- Discuss surgical options after the weight loss
- Review the important safety considerations that are unique to bariatric and post-bariatric patients
Target Audience
This symposium is designed for the health care professional, including primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners who would benefit from a comprehensive review of the medical and surgical care of the obese patient, before and after bariatric surgery.
Purpose and Content
The symposium is designed to give the participant a comprehensive and multidisciplinary review of the management of the obese patient, including bariatric medicine, bariatric surgery and post-bariatric plastic surgery. The faculty will present the latest refinements and advancements in every treatment aspect of the obese patient. It will consist of didactic lectures, panel discussions, and question-and-answer periods.
