Graduate School Mentoring Program

Bed & Breakfast

What is the UT Southwestern Alumni Association Bed & Breakfast Program?

UT Southwestern alumni offer senior medical students overnight accommodations and/or
other support as the students travel for internship interviews.

Am I obligated for all activities?

No, you can choose only those that are convenient.

Am I obligated for the entire year?

No, students understand that their requests might not be convenient with your schedule.

Is this really important?

YES. First, it saves students money. Second, it gives our students a chance to meet you.
And, third, it gives you a chance to meet them.

How does it work?

To Sign up and or edit/update your contact information via the internet;
please go to the Alumni Affairs Restricted Site.

Then students contact you directly. If their request is convenient for YOU, you and the
student decide the details of his/her visit.

Thanks very much for your consideration.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact:

Day with a Doc

"A Day With The Doc" program is for our medical students who want to know more about a particular specialty and a typical day as a physician. We have many UT Southwestern alumni that practice in the DFW area that have signed up to participate in the program.

Once in medical school, time with physicians serves a new purpose because difficult decisions remain - particularly the decision about specialty. Perhaps some students enter UT Southwestern Medical School knowing exactly what specialty they want and never change their mind. On the other hand, most students change their mind at least once. That is why this program is so important. It is designed to connect students with doctors and their experiences.

The medical school curriculum is well suited to training students for a residency program. And of course, clinical training experiences in the 3rd year are important in making a specialty choice, as are our efforts to provide as much information as possible to help students make the best choices. But there is no substitute for the opportunity to benefit from the experience of a practicing physician, particularly someone with whom the student shares at least one thing in common - Southwestern.

This alumni/student interface will be of significant assistance to our students. It is a real gift.

Graduate School Mentoring Program

The purpose of the "Graduate School Mentoring Program" is to discover and develop positive avenues connecting alumni with current students, thereby enhancing information sharing and career opportunities.

We invite you to participate in this alumni mentoring program. This system will provide current students with an excellent opportunity to get the "real deal" about where to post-doc, whether industry is the right environment, whether to work on the East or West Coast, etc.

Your shared experiences will provide a great service to the students who follow you. Additionally, you will be able to keep in touch with potential contacts in The UT Southwestern Graduate School.
