DOD Inspections
 

United States Department of Defense (DOD) Inspections

Inspection is used here as the general term that incorporates any or all of the following:

  • Site Visit by EH&S - EH&S staff visit your laboratory and supporting locations.
  • Site Visit by DOD - DOD staff visit UT Southwestern.

  Audit - Documents and Records are reviewed.

  • Survey - Materials and operations are observed during a Site Visit.
  • Interview - Questions are asked; usually during a Site Visit.

Inspections by EH&S

Inspections by EH&S provide assurance that all operations, records, and documents at UT Southwestern will pass a full-scale inspection conducted by a DOD Site Visit Team.

Inspections by DOD:

Numerous EH&S and laboratory documents, records, and operations are subject to review, observation, and questioning by DOD inspectors. 

Some important areas that might be included in an inspection are: Safety and Environmental Compliance Aspects of Laboratory Operations; Compliance of EH&S and Laboratory Operations with the Facility Safety Plan; Certificate of Environmental Compliance (CEC) ; Compliance with Safety Plans signed by Principal Investigators and Filed With EH&S; Records of Annual Laboratory Safety and Environmental Compliance Audits Conducted by EH&S in DOD-Funded Laboratories; Documentation of Hazard Assessments Performed by EH&S and/or laboratories.
