The CDC / NIH recommends Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, Fourth Edition that biological safety
cabinets (BSC) be certified at the time of installation, any time the BSC is moved, and annually
thereafter. This certification ensures a biosafety cabinet is in good working order by testing supply velocity,
HEPA filter leak testing, exhaust, etc. A properly working biosafety cabinet will protect laboratory workers
from exposure, and protect the research material itself.Environmental Heath and Safety requires that
notification be sent anytime a BSC is certified through the BSC Alert Form which should be sent back to
EH&S to 5323 Harry Hines Blvd Dallas, Texas 75390 (mailing code 9053).

Testing, certification and calibration of contamination control equipment, laboratory equipment, and process
control instrumentation is handled by 3rd party vendors. Choice of vendor is completely up to lab personnel.
