Fire Safety Program Facts and Staff Listing:

The mission of the Fire Safety Program is to prevent fires by minimizing or eliminating fire hazards on campus. Fire Safety is responsible for educating faculty, staff, and students on fire prevention and protection, life safety, emergency preparedness, and hands-on fire extinguisher training.

Another mission of the Fire Safety Program is to protect life and property, and to assist UT Southwestern in compliance with the National Fire Codes. The program is responsible for 24 hour emergency response to fires, smoke, odors, and other campus emergencies. The program provides fire protection review of construction and renovation projects, implements policies and guidelines for the use of all controlled heating devices. They also oversee announced and unannounced fire drills for all UT Southwestern buildings, hospitals and centers to comply with fire codes. If you are in a building when a fire alarm sounds, please follow the evacuation plan; it might not be a drill.

Fire protection officers inspect over 8 million square feet of offices, labs, and rooms for safety purposes. They also oversee the use of the following equipment:

- Over 3000 fire extinguishers.

- 45 fire alarm systems.

- 86 fire sprinkler systems.

- 21 fire pumps.
